Akinci briefs political leaders on failure of Cyprus talks

Following his meeting with Siber, the Akinci briefed leaders and representatives of the political parties.


TURKISH CYPRIOT leader Mustafa Akıncı briefed separately the ‘Speaker of Parliament’ Sibel Siber, as well as the leaders of political parties following the collapse of the Cyprus talks in Crans Montana, Switzerland.

Mr. Akinci first received Mrs. Siber, according to BRT, the public broadcaster in the north.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Siber said that a joint effort in unity was needed to plan for the future.

“Rather than focusing on who said what at the negotiating table we need to focus on what the people think” she said.

Following his meeting with Siber, Akinci briefed leaders and representatives of the political parties.

The meeting was attended by leader of the National Unity Party Hüseyin Özgürgün, and leader of the Democrat Party Serdar Denktash, the leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party Tufan Erhürman and the leader of the Social Democratic Party Cemal Özyiğit as well as other party representatives.

The Turkish Cypriot negotiator Özdil Nami, Undersecretary Gürdal Hüdaoğlu, the Spokesman Barış Burcu, the Special Advisor for Diplomacy and EU Affairs Erhan Erçin and the Special Advisor for Political Affairs and History Meltem Onurkan Samani were also present at the meeting, BRT added.
