Local developer Peter Rummell is attempting to rally the business community against a special City Council committee review of its deal for JEA land on which he wants to build a massive mixed-use development, according to an email shared with the Jacksonville Business Journal.
The city council president and the chair of the special committee have said they’re just providing necessary oversight and looking out for tens of millions of taxpayer dollars that would be invested in the project.
In an email sent Friday to a range of business and political leaders, Rummell says the additional oversight is politically motivated and will stifle development.
“There is a reason our city is stuck in a rut of little ideas and small-minded moves — because our leaders are small minded and have no idea of the potential this city has,” he wrote. “Without wanting to sound arrogant, this is one of the biggest, boldest ideas to hit Jacksonville in at least the 20+ years I have been here.”
