The most recent mass shooting in Sutherland Springs has pushed the gun control discourse to the forefront of political debate once again.
Following the shooting, Chron.com looked into the state-approved handgun licenses to carry in Houston-area ZIP codes according to data from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
STATEWIDE: These are the Texas counties with the most handgun licenses per capita
We looked at the ZIP codes from Huntsville to Galveston and Brenham to Beaumont to see which ZIP codes had the most License to Carry applicants over the past year.
What we found, is that the ZIP codes with the most licenses aren’t within the city of Houston, but instead the surrounding suburbs.

This data solely counts the number of people in the Houston area who have obtained licenses to carry a handgun in public. This is not the total number of people who have purchased a handgun over the past year.
