BENGALURU: Charging the BJP and Congress of tryin g to malign his image ahead of the 2018 assembly elections, former chief minister and JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy said that he would commit suicide if allegations of corruption against were to be proven true.

Kumaraswamy has obtained an anticipatory bail in connection with the probe into the Janthakal mining scam during his tenure as CM by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The former CM has, in fact, appeared before the SIT. “Both the political parties are targeting me in the run-up to the assembly polls. I have never indulged in corruption, so they are trying to implicate me in this case and trying to tarnish my image,” said Kumaraswamy, who has been accused of helping Janthakal Mining Company get its mining licence.

Affirming that he had not misused his power when he was CM, Kumaraswamy added, “A slander campaign has been launched against me by political parties. They keep displaying CDs and pen drives and claim these as evidence against me. Let the SIT establish the truth. If it’s proven that I received kickbacks from the mining company, I’ll hang myself in public.”
