Learn about candidates for city offices | Hailey

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, Oct. 25, candidates for Ketchum mayor, Ketchum City Council and Hailey City Council will take questions and discuss issues in two separate Pizza and Politics forums. The events are sponsored and organized by the Idaho Mountain Express as a public service.

At the first event at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Limelight Hotel in Ketchum, Wood River Valley residents will have the opportunity to learn about two candidates for Ketchum mayor and eight candidates for two open seats on the Ketchum City Council. At the second event at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Old County Courthouse in Hailey, voters will have the opportunity to learn about four candidates for two open seats on the Hailey City Council.

The following candidates are expected to attend:

  • Ketchum mayor: Nina Jonas (incumbent) and Neil Bradshaw.
  • Ketchum City Council: Amanda Breen, Anne Corrock (incumbent), Shannon Flavin, Courtney Hamilton, Anastasia Horan, Mickey Garcia, Baird Gourlay (incumbent) and Shawn Phillips.
  • Hailey City Council: Seat 1—Jeff Bacon and Martha Burke (incumbent); Seat 2—Henno Heitur and Kaz Thea.

Pizza and Politics provides an opportunity for the public and local media to learn about candidates’ political platforms and question them about their stances on issues. The forums will be moderated by Idaho Mountain Express Editor Greg Foley.

The Express will provide pizza and soft drinks, and asks the public to bring short questions for the candidates. Press and public attending should take note that questions cannot specifically address one candidate and must be answerable by all candidates in each race. The Ketchum event is expected to last about two hours. The Hailey event is expected to last approximately one hour.

The city elections are Tuesday, Nov. 7.
