Letter to editor: Is bipartisan lawmaking doomed? | Opinion

In many ways, we are all to blame for the violence that is rampant in our country and the Virginia shooting is just another example of the hatred we share. That hatred is evident in the rantings from the right on talk radio and the talking heads on liberal TV.

Democrats like myself are dismayed by the fact that a man like Donald Trump could be elected President. The more radical among us cry “treason” and “impeach him” without any concrete proof. Trump makes himself an easy target with his twitter rants and disregard the people on the other side of the political spectrum.

I fear that we have grown so far apart that any effort at bipartisan lawmaking is doomed. I think we all need to take a deep breath and try to understand where the other side is coming from. Ignore the more inflammatory remarks from the other side for a time.
