Friday’s event, though, will be their only head-to-head encounter before the May 22 runoff. Early voting starts Monday.
At the debate, the candidates will make opening statements. Jeffers will ask questions for about 30 minutes. Negotiated rules call for the candidates to take three questions from the audience. One of them, possibly, or a fourth question will be asked in Spanish. White and Valdez then will deliver closing statements.
The debate will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. James Episcopal Church, 1941 Webberville Road, Austin.
Seating is limited. Free tickets will be available Tuesday evening through a link that will be posted on Facebook, organizers said. The link will be published in the official Facebook event.
The “grass-roots coalition” sponsoring the event includes the State Tejano Democrats, Texas Coalition of Black Democrats, Texas College Democrats, Texas Young Democrats, Texas Stonewall Democrats and the Travis County Democratic Party.
