(KUTV) – Utah Rep. Chris Stewart is joining Reps. Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan in calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign.

Stewart is a member of the House Intelligence Committee and gave a statement to KUTV regarding his call for Sessions to step down.

“Jeff Sessions is one of the most honorable men in Washington, D.C., but our investigations into very important concerns regarding political corruption within the Department of Justice and the FBI have been weakened by his recusal. We need an Attorney General who can take the reins and be assertive through this process,” Steward said. “I believe it may be time for him to step aside.”

Meadows and Jordan cited FBI leaks they allege Sessions did not “control” in the Russian investigation of the 2016 election tampering in an op-ed published in the Washington Examiner. Sessions recused himself from the Russian probe, which followed with criticism of his handling of the case.

“It is time for Sessions to start managing in a spirit of transparency to bring all of this improper behavior to light and stop further violations,” Republican Reps. Meadows and Jordan wrote in the op-ed.
