Ruddy argued that Mueller should not have taken the job of special counsel because he was under consideration for the other position, and had had the private meeting with the president for the Federal Bureau of Investigation director appointment.
A source close to the president said Trump is being counseled to steer clear of such a dramatic move such as firing the special counsel.
“I think he is considering perhaps terminating the special counsel“, Ruddy said. And you suggested – I think I heard you suggesting that there is a question about the objective of his investigation.
In appointing Mueller last month, Rosenstein said that the “public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command”.
Mueller was appointed by the Justice Department to helm the investigation after Trump abruptly fired Comey – who was the one previously leading the Russian Federation probe – in early May.
Even so, Mr Gingrich said, Mr Trump will not seek to dismiss Mr Mueller because he is confident the probe will conclude he has done nothing wrong.
Rosenstein also said that having made political contributions “is not a disqualification” from working for the special counsel leading the Russian Federation investigation.
“He did not hire a single Republican in the first wave”, Gingrich said.
The president sacked Comey in early May.
I want to ask you about that, because there are some Republicans out there saying that Robert Mueller shouldn’t be doing this job. He is nearly certain to be asked about the possibility of the president firing Mueller.
The tweet from Conway came after the Trump White House had to put out a fire caused by Trump confidant Chris Ruddy. Susan Collins of Maine what he would do if Trump ordered him to fire Mueller, Rosenstein said, “Senator, I’m not going to follow any orders unless I believe those are lawful and appropriate orders”. “Right now the role of the president is to govern the United States of America”.
“I can’t imagine that that issue is going to arise”, he added. Ruddy is definitely on Trump’s side, reminding viewers on CNN that “there is no evidence of wrongdoing, there’s no evidence of collusion, there’s no evidence of obstruction”. Ruddy did not immediately respond to questions seeking clarification.
“I think Congress should now intervene and they should abolish the independent counsel”, the former House speaker said.
