The Public Pulse: A rally against free speech | Opinion

While I appreciate and agree that “hate” has no place on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s campus, the actions of the university and many of its students say otherwise (“Hundreds rally against white nationalist student,” Feb. 8 World-Herald).

I didn’t see the same outrage when a young female student was verbally attacked and ridiculed by not only other students but by an instructor for her conservative political views. I wonder how the university would react to someone spewing anti-white rhetoric. I doubt it would bat an eye.

To me, this has nothing to do with hate speech but is just another liberal stance of “we won’t tolerate any opposing views on our campuses.”

The actual slogan at the rally should have been: “We refuse to allow free speech.”
