KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 — DAP’s Lim Kit Siang today wished PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang well after the latter’s heart surgery, and called it a sign of “mature politics”.
Lim said politicians must remain civil despite their differences, which his party and Hadi’s currently have several.
The DAP parliamentary leader further said this position was why he never ruled out working with political rivals including Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“We may have different political positions, but it is a test of maturity of Malaysian political leaders in a democratic system that political leaders must always be civil and polite with each other, and never be personal, cantankerous or abusive in pursuit of their roles in a democratic system to submit their objectives, programmes and policies to the peaceful and democratic electoral endorsement of the people in periodic general elections,” Lim said.
He also touted DAP as the vanguard in combating “politics of lies, hate and fear.”
Hadi underwent a valve replacement surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN), and is currently recuperating.
Former allies PAS and DAP turned hostile over disagreements such as the former’s push for more stringent Shariah punishments.
